Now consolidated into a single space on the second floor of the Pacific Design Center, West Hollywood (SPACE B266 in the blue building) the Carl Berg Projects will open will it first exhibition in this new space with Italian artist Federico D’Orazio.
D’Orazio is returning to Los Angeles after a 10-year absence with his newest inflatable works based on Italian Renaissance painting that he created in Thailand and China. He will also feature an inflatable book titled “O Book” and the accompanying video that he created in Los Angeles for the LA International Biennial exhibition in 1997.
D’Orazio is well-known for his inflatable works and has created both large and small scale pieces ranging from a gallery filled with water beds covered with grass print to a piece titled “Mucca” that consist of a genetically engineered cow with a huge inflatable utter. These humoristic works express D’Orazio’s often biting political and social commentary he finds in his investigation of the fringes of culture. His long history of investigating sub-culture has included such diverse subjects as the sex industry in Thailand and Holland, car culture in Europe and Los Angeles, the penal system to name a few. D’Orazio’s new inflatable paintings continue his career-long investigation into clashing of the high and low in art and culture.
