Los Angeles based artist Kent Anderson Butler will present a new series of photo-based tapestries in a solo exhibit titled “Chic”. The tapestries are all portraits of male figures that are bare breasted: a direct and imposing view of the figure. The figures are all acquaintances and family members of the artist and there is also a self-portrait. The figures in these portraits were taken against different backgrounds (walls of different compositions and textures) creating an interesting figure ground relationship. The unusual mix of digital and traditional techniques furthers the unusual quality of the work creating a very fresh and direct form of portraiture.
